Micro computer,

INTRODUCTION TO MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATION

·                     This course is designed to give students fundamentals of microcomputer systems in both hardware and software perspective, and the use of computer for basic office use. Thus, it enables students to gain hands-on experience with operating systems and application software such as word processors,
·                     spreadsheets, and internet
·                     Learning Outcomes · Understand basic computer terminologies and history of computers
· Understand computer hardware and software fundamentals
· Become proficient in the use windows and Linux environment

Computer is the electronic device which is capable of accepting data manipulating them, storing them and give out the results as output, and also used in communications.

There are four types of Computer

¨ Supercomputer      Mainframe Computer
¨Minicomputer        Microcomputer

Data, Information, And Systems

Computer-based Information System takes data as raw material, process it, and produce information as output

microcomputer is another name for a personal computer, or PC. The major emphasis will be on using microcomputers with the most popular kinds of computer software used in business and education today including word processing, spreadsheets and database management.

computer network is a group of computer systems and other computing hardware devices that are linked together through communication channels to facilitate communication and resource-sharing among a wide range of users. Networks are commonly category.

OPERATING SYSTEMS is a system software that manages all computer resources and allow other programs to run. The operating system is a vital component of the system software in a computer system.

Application programs usually require an operating system to function. zed based on their characteristics.

                          Overview of Windows

Windows is an GUI based operating system.is also developed by Microsoft Corporation, which is headed by Mr. Bill Gates .Over the years the Microsoft have evolved various versions of Windows. Win95, Win98, Win2000, Win ME, Win NT, Win XP, window 2007, window 2007.

The Commodore 64 was one of the most popular microcomputers of its era, and is the best-selling model of home computer of all time.[1]
microcomputer is a small, relatively inexpensive computer with a microprocessor as its central processing unit (CPU).[2] It includes a microprocessor, memory, and minimal input/output (I/O) circuitry mounted on a single printed circuit board.[3] Microcomputers became popular in the 1970s and 1980s with the advent of increasingly powerful microprocessors. The predecessors to these computers, mainframes and minicomputers, were comparatively much larger and more expensive (though indeed present-day mainframes.
    History of Computer

    A collection of early microcomputers,
Although they did not contain any microprocessors, but were built around transistor-transistor logic (TTL), Hewlett-Packard calculators as far back as 1968 had various levels of programmability such that could be called microcomputers. The HP 9100B (1968) had rudimentary conditional (if) statements, statement line numbers, jump statements (go to), registers that could be used as variables, and primitive subroutines. The programming language resembled assembly language in many ways. Later models incrementally added more features, including

the BASIC programming language (HP 9830A in 1971). Some models had tape storage and small printers. However, displays were limited to one line at a time. The Datapoint 2200, made by CTC in 1970, is perhaps the best candidate for the title of "first microcomputer". While it contains no microprocessor,..............

    TYPES OF THE COMPUTER

    COMPUTER COMPONENT

    Computer With WiNdows 7 OS.

What Are The Primary Components Of A Computer ?
    Input devices.
•Central Processing Unit (containing the control unit and the arithmetic/logic unit).
       •Memory.
       •Output devices.
        •Storage devices.

    Floppy Disks

A floppy disk is a portable, inexpensive storage medium that consists of a thin, circular, flexible plastic disk with a magnetic coating enclosed in a square-shaped plastic shell.

     Hard Disk

metal plates coated with a metal oxide material that allows data to be magnetic. The hard disk platters spin at a high rate of speed, typically 5400 to 7200 revolutions per m(RPM).

Storage capacites of hard disks for personal computers range from 10 GB to 120 GB (one billion bytes are called a gigabyte).

    The Central processing Unit

The central processing unit (CPU) contains electronic circuits that cause processing to occur. The CPU interprets instructions to the computer, performs the logical and arithmetic processing operations, and causes the input and output operations to occur. It is considered the “brain” of the computer.
